Who we are

The ToleranzRäume project is implemented by the association Toleranz-Tunnel e.V. together with the Kreuzberg Initiative against Anti-Semitism (KIgA e.V.). Bielefeld University (Faculty of Education; AG10) furnishes scientific support for the project. In addition, an eight-member expert advisory board provides the project with consultation and support.

The sponsor

The sponsor of the exhibition ToleranzRäume is the non-profit association Toleranz-Tunnel e.V., founded in Detmold in 2020. The association aims to make a contribution to peaceful coexistence in our society and to stand up for social change in the long term – beyond the exhibition’s run. This is another reason why the exhibition can be followed up digital space with more in-depth information and further educational materials.

The basic idea and its subsequent development

The idea of sending an exhibition on the subject of tolerance on the road originally came from Mexico: it was developed by the Museum of Tolerance and Remembrance in Mexico City and successfully implemented with the support of the Federal Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany. ToleranzTunnel e.V. has adapted the concept for Germany and further developed it through the ToleranzRäume project.

The initiators

Prof. Matitjahu Kellig, Dr. Jarek Nicolaus Korczynski and Dr. Martin Anduschus founded the non-profit association Toleranz-Tunnel e.V. together with other like-minded individuals in 2020.

Dr. Jarek Nikolaus Korczynski

Jarek Nikolaus Korczynski studied political science and economics at the Helmut Schmidt University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg, where he also completed his doctorate. As cultural attaché at the German Embassy in Mexico City, he has worked on projects with that city’s Museum of Remembrance and Tolerance.

Dr. Martin Anduschus
Managing Director of the association Toleranz-Tunnel e.V.

Martin Anduschus studied philosophy and German philology at the Free University of Berlin, Stanford University California and the University of Hamburg, where he completed his doctorate in philosophy. For the last 20 years, he has pursued a corporate career as a senior executive and digitisation expert. A co-founder of the association, he took over its management in mid2021.

Source of funding

The association is financed by donations and membership fees. The German Bundestag is funding the project and has commissioned  the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community to implement it. Funding by the German Bundestag is due to the commitment of our numerous supporters. We owe a special debt of gratitude to Helge Lindh, member of the German Bundestag, who has tirelessly supported the project.

Project team

From inspiration to execution: in our interdisciplinary project team, we combine topical expertise, exhibition experience and practical experience with organisation and dissemination.

Project board

Toleranz-Tunnel e.V. is the initiator and sponsor of the ToleranzRäume project. From the conception, financing, acquisition of exhibition venues and supporters to the execution and on-site support: this is where it all comes together.

Exhibition and educational content:
Kreuzberg Initiative against Anti-Semitism (KIgA e.V.)

For almost 20 years, the renowned and award-winning educational institution KIgA e.V. has been offering comprehensive expertise in the field of political education as well as nationwide solutions and training approaches for complex and socially relevant topics. Trainers receive regular qualification upskilling; interested parties from the spheres of education, politics and civil society are in like manner provided with consultation. Through its expertise, the organisation also actively participates in shaping political and scientific discourse, as well as providing members for national and international committees. KIgA also inspires social momentum through cultural events and exhibitions. Against the background of this longstanding expertise and networking in the political arena, KIgA’s diverse and interdisciplinary team, beyond conceiving the exhibition, curates its content and continuously develops accompanying educational materials.

Scientific evaluation:
Bielefeld University

Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Paul Mecheril at Bielefeld University, the exhibition ToleranzRäume is evaluated in a process-accompanying, systematic and formative manner. To this end, the project team collects qualitative and quantitative empirical data with the aim of recording conditions of appropriate educational processes within the context of the exhibit. This scientific support can be seen as an organic, albeit independent component of the ToleranzRäume project. The scientific team will accompany the exhibition project throughout its entire duration in an advisory capacity. As part of their scientific monitoring of the project, they supply written reflections on project-relevant topics.

The focus of the evaluation is the on-site survey and analysis of the exhibition’s routine. The central goal of the formative evaluation is to examine, at different levels and utilising a wide array of methods and instruments, how in practice the exhibition is received and its content adopted on site. All formatively obtained results of this analysis are in turn incorporated into the further development and detailed planning of the overall project’s conceptual work.

  • Consultation on the pedagogical concept for working with the exhibition and reaching different target groups
